I use this cap on the nice days in the spring and fall. It is perfect in weight and feel and works great until it gets too hot and the sweat really flows. It is too thin and cannot hold much sweat. When it comes to summer I switch to something more substantial -- kind of a drag given these are very light. Still looking for the perfect blend of sweat absorption from the brow and thing and airy while still offering sun protection for the summer.
I have to second 10K Cyclist's review. Found the same versus my merino bases. You can adjust the weight of your jersey to fit basically any condition with this base. Excellent at wicking sweat whereas merinos hold sweat at elbows, back of neck, glove junction. Can wear with Alpha ROS fly jacket (inner zip insulated liner covering torso) to upper 30's if still, 40's with wind, but if too windy, the Assos Ultraz base is excellent (and takes me down to mid to low 30's. Just a hint of itch when i put it on; once on, I do not notice it at all. If it was as soft as the Ultraz when i put it on it would be 5 star. As it is, my favorite non-heavy base.
Here in hilly East Tennessee we are lucky to be riding 12 months of the year. I love how this "thingy" extends the comfort of cycling during the late-fall to spring seasons. I probably get this thingy out starting around mid October and use it all the way till April. It keeps your neck warm when it is worn low and your face from chills and winds when it is up like a balaclava. I actually stopped using my balaclava because it is easier to use the thingy to regulate your temp. And it you get too hot I take it off and it fits into my pocket like nothing.
This is my second pair. My first lasted me the last couple winters and finally started to wear out.
I often get out in sub freezing temps and don't like wearing heavy/bulky ski style gloves. So I'd looked for a good cold weather glove that still maintained good dexterity. These fit the bill.
On their own they come out when the temps drop below 45-50 and I find them good down to about freezing, unless it's humid. If the air is moist, thick, and penetrating nothing is gonna keep you very warm. In those cases, or when it gets really cold, I'll wear a thin pair of merino knit gloves under these, and have been experimenting with surgical gloves to help keep that moisture barrier in tact which has worked pretty well. I've ridden in dry, single digit temps and with thin gloves under these, I've been good once riding and working up some internal heat.
Regardless of temp, these gloves punch above their weight for me and have become my Goldilocks glove for cold weather. That they aren't overly expensive have also made them feel worth more than the asking price.
